Mission & Operating Statements
The South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center will advance the knowledge and appreciation of plants and the environment, in relation to
personal and community education, well-being, and scientific understanding. It will conserve, preserve, display and interpret native and adapted flora and fauna of South Texas, for area residents and visitors alike.
Our facility strives to:
Offer an ever-growing source of beauty, information, environmental learning and entertainment; Provide a positive and satisfying visitor experience; Enhance local quality of life and economic development through nature tourism.
Corpus Christi, the Coastal Bend and South Texas have embraced their non-profit botanical garden with enthusiastic individual volunteerism; corporate, foundation and personal donations; a growing membership base; support through school tours and educational program attendance; and steadily increasing admission numbers.
Although it occupies City land, the Botanical Gardens & Nature Center receives only five percent of its budget from the City of Corpus Christi, with no other government support. Welcoming guests from every state and many foreign countries, roughly 60 percent of its visitors are tourists. The Corpus Christi Convention & Visitors Bureau gives constant support in state and nation-wide marketing. Assisting the facilities and maintenance staff are the Corpus Christi Rose Society, South Texas Orchid Society, Plumeria Society of South Texas, Corpus Christi Bromeliad Society, Corpus Christi Companion Bird Club & Rescue Mission, Texas Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists.
The South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center gives back to the community in quality of life, and economic development through nature tourism. It is a 501 (c)(3) organization, run by a Board of Directors; and also has a Regional Advisory Board, and Technical Advisory Board.
